Óbidos is getting ready to host the third edition of ÓBIDOS VILA GAMING from May 7 to 11—a pioneering initiative that merges tradition and innovation by transforming the medieval town into the world’s first Gaming Village. This year, entry will be free so that everyone can enjoy the possibilities of the gaming industry and gamer culture.
The event, which has been establishing itself as one of the most relevant on the national digital culture scene, positions itself in this edition as a platform for intergenerational exchange, technological education, and a celebration of creativity, welcoming everyone looking to deepen their knowledge in this sector or simply enjoy fun moments with friends and family.
Over five days, ÓBIDOS VILA GAMING will offer unique experiences for audiences of all ages—from curious young people to professionals in the tech industry, as well as families who never miss a gaming trend.
The program includes areas dedicated to retrogaming, virtual reality, video games, eSports, cosplay, dance games, and many other attractions.
There will be 50 hours of events, 16 activities to discover, over 300 pieces of equipment available, and around 50 hours of talks and workshops featuring 35+ experts, including some of the most influential figures from the gamer community.
Beyond entertainment, the event reinforces a strong commitment to education and skill development for new generations, once again featuring Game Dev Sessions, with talks and workshops led by national and international specialists in programming, robotics, artificial intelligence, and technological innovation.
Among the standout guests are Jessica Monteiro (Pixar), Patrice Leymarie (IAMAG), and Christopher Hamilton (International Game Developers Association – IGDA), who will share top industry insights in animation, VFX, art direction, character design, and game production.
From May 6 to 8, the National University eSports Championship will also take place at the old Wine Warehouses in A-da-Gorda, a competition organized by FADU – Portuguese Academic Sports Federation, expected to gather over 100 university athletes.
This event is part of a broader territorial development strategy through digital culture, serving as an example of how technology can contribute to the sustainable, inclusive, and creative growth of communities.
